Sky: I think some of the most exciting innovation in makeup is the quality of products are getting better & better. Many makeup lines are creating products that equal as skin care. I think we’re living in a time that everyone is becoming very ingredient focused, this is pushing the industry create products that not only enhance your beauty but are actually good for your skin too.
Sky: When doing a client consultation I try & lean in to understanding how they want to feel after getting there makeup rather than how they want to look. This allows us to come up with a collaborative experience that we’ll both be happy with. When someone shows me a style of makeup that I don’t think is suitable for them I try to get a understanding of why they’re choosing it. That allows me to help guide them in the direction that I believe will be most flattering on them.
Sky: I’m able to find a balance by making sure I’m listening to what makes a client feel the most beautiful. I can always find a variation of a makeup trend that will suit each client individually.
Sky: I first start by making the client feel really comfortable & make sure they feel safe with me. Skin sensitivities can be very vulnerable so I want them to know they are in good hands. I then work on evening out there complexion without adding heavy layers.
Sky: I always have toner, moisturizer & sheet masks. Your skin gets so dehydrated when traveling. Skin prep is essential to your makeup looking flawless. For makeup my non negotiabless are concealer, blush & lipliner. Those 3 products are so versatile & always make me feel my best.
]]>Attachment styles influence relationship patterns but shouldn't define you completely.
"Emotional metabolism" helps process feelings like a healthy digestive system.
Quality sleep is fundamental to emotional regulation and relationship health.
Slowing down during conflicts gives partners space to return in a better state
In Episode 12 of The Blissy Experience, we sit down with Vanessa Morgan, a relationship therapist who specializes in couples therapy. With extensive training in helping people repair childhood trauma and relate better to their partners, Vanessa brings her deep expertise in attachment theory and neurobiology to this insightful conversation.
Learn about her unique approach to strengthening relationships and discover exclusive tips she's sharing only with Blissy!

Vanessa’s work is rooted in attachment theory—how early bonds with caregivers shape our adult relationships. She explains that relational patterns run on implicit memory, often outside our conscious awareness.
"We tend to pick partners that feel familiar, but they're not necessarily capable of meeting our needs," she says. Combining attachment theory with neurobiology, she explores how the brain toggles between connection and fight-or-flight.
As a relationship therapist, she helps couples become "intentionally relational," teaching them to shift out of survival mode and build deeper, healthier connections.

Attachment styles are all over pop psychology these days, but Vanessa breaks them down in a way that actually makes sense. Here’s the quick and dirty version of the four main types:
Vanessa points out that secure attachment is actually the most common, while disorganized attachment is the rarest (about 5% of people). Anxious and avoidant styles are pretty evenly split across the population—so if you feel like you're constantly chasing or running away in relationships, you're definitely not alone.

Vanessa sees value in knowing your attachment style—but warns against letting it define you completely. "It's part of the picture, not the whole picture," she explains. Instead of boxing yourself (or your partner) in, attachment theory can help you understand how to support each other’s nervous systems in a relationship.
For those dealing with an avoidant partner, Vanessa offers this insight: "Avoidants had to learn to shut down their feelings as a way to cope with their caregivers. Deep down, they struggle with the belief that 'no one cares about my emotional experience.'”
So, what’s the move? Instead of getting frustrated or pushing for connection—which will only make them retreat further—slow things down. Show genuine curiosity about their feelings without pressure. Creating a safe space for them to open up (at their own pace) makes a bigger impact than trying to force closeness.
One of Vanessa's most eye-opening concepts is emotional metabolism—a way to understand how we process and regulate feelings.
"I conceptualize emotion something like our digestive system," she explains. "If it’s immature, we can’t digest—we throw up our feelings. Emotions need to be metabolized. We need to sit with them and process them and learn how to manage emotions in a conscious way."
This analogy helps couples recognize why some partners struggle with emotional regulation and how they can develop healthier ways to process emotions together.
"We tend to pick partners that feel familiar, but they're not necessarily capable of meeting our needs"
When talking about love languages, Vanessa takes gift-giving beyond the surface level, highlighting why it holds such emotional weight in relationships.
"So many things are symbolic in relationships," she explains. "'Socks on the floor is not about socks on the floor.' Same thing with gifts. It's about object permanence—I can live in their heart even when I'm not with them."
A well-thought-out gift isn’t just about the item itself—it’s about showing your partner that you truly see them and think of them even when you’re apart. For those who feel anxious about gift-giving, Vanessa suggests honesty and intention: "If you’re not naturally good at it, acknowledge that, but commit to taking actionable steps to improve. Show effort."
Vanessa’s insight? Sleep isn’t just rest—it’s key to relationship health.
"Sleep is one of the only ways your brain repairs itself, so it's incredibly important for emotional hygiene," she explains. Without it, emotional regulation suffers, making partners more reactive.
She’s seen couples struggle with basic needs like sleep and nutrition—both critical to relationship dynamics. In her own life, she prioritizes sleep as a shared ritual: "My husband and I go to sleep together as an important attachment ritual. Going to sleep is a separation, and every interaction around separation or reunion activates the attachment system in your brain."
For couples with different schedules, she suggests small rituals like tucking your partner in to maintain connection.
Irritability, overreacting to small things, and feeling drained—Vanessa says these are the first signs that sleep deprivation is taking a toll on your relationship.
"We misattribute childhood trauma as the sole problem in conflict, but it can also be sleep, nutrition—how much energy your cells have to put into anything," she explains. Simply put, sometimes the issue isn’t deep—it’s just exhaustion.
She also warns that poor nutrition can fuel anxiety and mood swings, making emotional regulation even harder.
The fix? Prioritizing sleep and rest. A Blissy adjustable pillow makes better sleep effortless—so you and your partner can wake up feeling recharged, not reactive.
"My husband and I go to sleep together as an important attachment ritual."
Vanessa hopes to see a shift away from rugged individualism and toward stronger, healthier connections.
"People have lost the skillsets they need to be in relationships," she notes. The real challenge? "How do I take care of myself and someone else at the same time?"
She believes we’re slowly moving in that direction—toward a balance where independence and deep connection can coexist.

In this episode, Vanessa Morgan shares invaluable insights into attachment theory, emotional processing, and the surprising physiological foundations of relationship health. Her most powerful advice? "Slow down. Slow down in fights. Take time to get into a better space and come back."

Don't forget to follow Sky on Instagram @skylovie for more beauty inspiration and behind-the-scenes glimpses into her work. Watch at the link below.
Sky’s process starts with a conversation, not an inspiration photo. By asking how clients want to feel and what they find beautiful, she balances transformation with authenticity, helping them feel elevated while still recognizing themselves.
This approach is rooted in Sky's early journey into makeup artistry, where she first discovered the transformative impact of her craft.

Sky Quartararo’s journey to becoming a celebrity makeup artist began unexpectedly when a friend and mentor, Sean Harris, introduced her to the transformative power of professional makeup. Acting as his model and training under his guidance, she discovered a passion not just for the artistry but for the meaningful connections she could create with clients.
Those early experiences, both as a model and artist, gave Sky a unique perspective on beauty and shaped her signature approach. Over the past decade, her talent has led to collaborations with brands like Beyoncé's haircare line "Sacred," Maxim magazine, and shows like The Real Housewives of Orange County.
Through it all, she remains committed to her belief that makeup’s real power lies in how it makes people feel.
For Sky, makeup is about more than applying products—it’s about creating a meaningful experience where clients feel seen and understood. Instead of relying on Instagram inspiration, she begins each session by asking how they want to feel. This approach helps her craft a deeply personal transformation that goes beyond surface beauty.
“I try to create an experience,” Sky explains, focusing on making clients feel heard in the moment. By understanding their past makeup experiences and their vision, she elevates what could be a routine service into something profound.
This way of thinking about makeup has made her a sought-after artist for everything from celebrity shoots to bridal makeup, where emotions matter as much as the final look. “I want them to feel loved, seen, and walk out feeling beautiful,” she says.

Sky shares her top five tips for enhancing natural beauty with ease:
Flawless eyeshadow starts with a well-prepped base. Apply concealer or eyeshadow primer, then set it with translucent powder for seamless blending.
"Blush makes everyone look more youthful," Sky says. Cream blush is her go-to for a fresh, vibrant look—just find the shade that complements your complexion.
For an effortless glow, use lightweight concealer, soft brown mascara, and glossy lips. Curl your lashes for an instant upgrade that looks polished yet natural.
Healthy skin is the foundation of great makeup. Skip wipes and double-cleanse with an oil or balm followed by a cleanser to keep your skin clean and ready.
Pause retinol 2-3 weeks before an event to avoid flaky skin. Focus on hydration and gentle skincare for a smooth, radiant makeup finish.
For Sky Quartararo, makeup artistry is about connection and understanding. Her process begins with listening to clients’ desires, focusing on how they want to feel. By prioritizing their vision, she ensures they feel seen and valued. “They want transformation without losing who they are,” she explains.
Sky emphasizes individuality by celebrating natural features and embracing expressiveness. “Smile lines mean you’re expressive—that’s beautiful,” she says. This approach fosters genuine confidence, creating looks that are both personal and refined.

At its core, makeup artistry requires striking the perfect balance between enhancement and authenticity. Clients often seek transformation but want to remain recognizable. “They want to feel elevated without feeling like a different person,” Sky notes.
This approach challenges traditional beauty standards that prioritize perfection. Sky views natural features as creative opportunities, redefining perceived flaws. “Smile lines mean you’re expressive—that’s beautiful,” she says. Her work reflects a commitment to refined, authentic beauty that highlights each client’s uniqueness.
In this episode, Sky Quartararo shares exclusive insights into her transformative approach to makeup artistry, from enhancing natural beauty to celebrating individuality. Her expert tips, including proper eye prep and achieving radiant, effortless looks, will inspire you to elevate your beauty routine.

We're thrilled to welcome back Jenny McAteer, the founder of You Are Beautiful Skincare, as a follow-up to our enlightening conversation with her on Episode 9.
On Episode 9 of The Blissy Experience podcast, Jenny shared her holistic approach to skincare, emphasizing the deep connection between our skin and overall health. Missed the episode? Click here for a recap and where to listen.
Jenny, a CIDESCO-qualified esthetician with over 18 years of experience, is dedicated to nurturing skin from the inside out. With advanced certifications in Sculptural Face Lifting and Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage, she blends expert techniques with ethically sourced, plant-based skincare products to achieve long-lasting skin health.
In this blog post, Jenny takes us even deeper into her skincare philosophy, offering tips on achieving radiant skin through holistic practices, facial reflexology, and mindful product choices.
Read on to explore Jenny's expert advice on how to elevate your skincare routine for a healthier, more vibrant complexion. And follow her on Instagram for even more tips!

Jenny: Having a mindful approach can turn a skincare routine into a relaxing self-care ritual that can deeply impact our mental well-being and overall wellness. This is the approach I choose to take in my own personal practice and how I provide my skincare services.
One of my most requested treatments that represents a mindful approach is The Pure Energy Facial Meditation, this is a Facial Reflexology treatment that balances the body systems through targeting specific meridian points, enhancing a deeply relaxing meditative state.
Face reflexology brightens the complexion, relaxes facial muscles and reduces skin inflammation. It also has the ability to improve the microcirculation between the dermis and the epidermis, which activates the natural hydration of our skin.
I find within the beauty industry we are conditioned to think that if we are not being aggressive with our skin we will not see results. Working holistically takes a gentler approach to skincare. My approach is massage-focused and I have found I get better long-lasting results for my clients working this way.
Building my clients' trust in me and my offerings is imperative and my commitment to their results has helped me grow my clientele and a successful business.

Jenny: I take a less is more approach to skincare, preferring to work with whole plant skin-supportive ingredients that nourish and allow our skin to naturally function and thrive. One of my personal favorite ingredients that is found in the line I use in the treatment room is Marshmallow Root.
Marshmallow is a natural alternative to hyaluronic acid, plumping up each cell with a boost of hydration. It is supportive of both the lipid barrier and our skin’s microbiome. I find marshmallow to be a great alternative for those seeking long-lasting hydration.
Jenny: Supporting a client coming off acne medication while at times was challenging and an emotional journey for them, the transformation that was made within a year was life-changing and long-term.
Treating acne conditions with a holistic approach considers the whole body system not just the skin. Making dietary changes to improve gut health, supporting the nervous system, and working on emotional well-being can have a significant role in the outcome and success for optimal skin health.
Jenny: I have always had a passion for holistic health & lifestyle and believe that our skin is a direct reflection of our overall health and wellbeing. I’m a firm believer that the products we put on our skin, like the foods we consume must be ethically sourced and whole plant-based.
When deciding to open my own practice, it was imperative to me to offer the kind of treatments I felt were the most loving and supportive and to seek out the highest quality products that not only support the skin but also support the environment.
I have sought out the leading experts in the field of natural holistic skincare to be my teachers and mentors and continue to research and expand my knowledge and expertise.

]]>Dr. Moore specializes in creating tailored sleep treatment plans, starting with thorough assessments and detailed sleep histories. Her structured approach has helped countless clients achieve better sleep in just a few weeks.
In this blog post, she dives deeper into her methods, offering practical advice for those struggling with irregular sleep schedules or on-call work demands.
Read on to discover Dr. Moore's expert tips on maintaining a healthy sleep routine, managing technology use at night, and adapting your lifestyle for better rest.
Dr. Moore: I can’t share any details of prior cases due to client confidentiality, but my process is the same for all clients.
We always start with a thorough assessment interview that lasts around 2 hours where I take a full sleep history and dive deep into details of the client’s nighttime routine, what happens in the middle of the night, and their morning routine.
From there, we collect 7-10 days of baseline data on sleep. With all that information in hand, I write a personalized and very detailed sleep treatment plan, then meet with the client to review and refine the plan.
We focus on those 4 main aspects of sleep: the bedtime routine, the sleep schedule, sleep dependencies, and interfering behavior, and do a comprehensive treatment plan that covers all of those things.
I won’t sugar coat it—my sleep treatment programs are intense! But, at the same time they are very doable and lead to remarkably fast changes in sleep. Most clients need very little additional support from me once they get rolling and we usually having things in good shape within about 2 weeks.
I always joke that I have the worst business model in the world—clients come to me for a very short time, then I never hear from them again, and don’t get repeat business from them because once they’re on the right track and the sleep problems are fixed, they tend to stay fixed. Great for clients, less great for a sustainable business plan 🙂.
I’m always happy though when clients report they don’t need my help any more because they are sleeping better!

I think the hardest thing for adults is often sticking to a regular sleep and wake schedule. Because so many adults are sleep deprived, they often want to “catch up” on their weekends/days off by sleeping in, which unfortunately wreaks havoc on your sleep for the next few days.
Also, for adults who have inconsistent schedules or do shift work, sticking to a regular schedule can be impossible. We also live in a world where we are trying to pack as much into our day as possible, so often people push bedtime later and later in an effort to either stay up and finish things they didn’t get to that day, or just to have some much needed time to relax and unwind (how many of us are guilty of staying up too late to binge-watch something on Netflix!?!).
We often need some downtime to relax and decompress before we are ready to go to bed, but often our schedules are so jam-packed we just don’t have that time, and instead sacrifice sleep instead.
Dr. Moore: That’s always a hard one. If you are lucky/priviledged enough to be in a position to change that (e.g. if there’s some flexibility in your job/responsibilities or you are willing and able to make a big change in your life), my first recommendation is to do whatever you can to change your lifestyle to suit your body.
Sometimes a little creativity and rearranging our schedules is all that’s needed, sometimes it’s worth having a chat with your employer to see whether there is any possibility of flexibility.
When we’ve exhausted those options and there isn’t a way to move things around then we have to do our best to help our body adapt to a schedule that doesn’t quite fit. In these cases, keeping a regular sleep schedule, exposing your body to bright light (sunlight if possible) in the morning, limiting exposure to light in the evening, and managing your eating and exercise schedule can go a long way toward helping your body adapt.
Sometimes short use of melatonin can help people push their circadian rhythm to a more desirable time.
Dr. Moore: I’m always astonished by how long people let sleep problems go and how long people put them on the back burner or just suffer with sleep problems.
Sleep is a huge contributor to your physical, mental, and emotional health and one of the most important things you can manage to take care of yourself. Often fixing sleep problems fixes all sorts of other problems too, and it’s easier to change sleep than most people think!
I can’t imagine going through life chronically sleep deprived and not making it a priority.
Dr. Moore: Technology has advanced a TON recently and pretty much every phone has features where you can put your phone in “sleep” or “do not disturb” mode, but set a rule for when to allow calls through.
For example, on my Samsung Galaxy phone, I have it automatically set to “do not disturb” from 10p-7a every day, but if the same number calls me twice in a row within 5 minutes it will allow the second call through.
My friends and family know that I have this setup, and they know if there’s an emergency during those hours they just need to call twice. Most phones have this or similar technology, and it’s just a simple Google search away!

She explains that facial massages relieve tension and improve blood flow, while balancing the nervous system promotes vibrant skin. Good sleep is crucial, as it prevents dehydration and hormonal imbalances. Jenny also recommends natural sunscreens and morning sunlight for vitamin D. Her holistic approach integrates body and skin care for a healthier, glowing complexion.

Consuming certain oils can significantly affect skin health. Jenny advises that seed oils like canola oil can cause inflammation and increase skin sensitivity to the sun. Instead, Jenny recommends opting for healthier cooking oils such as coconut oil or avocado oil. These oils not only support overall health but also help maintain better skin by reducing inflammation and preventing sun sensitivity. Jenny highlights the importance of reading labels and choosing the right oils for cooking to promote healthier skin.
Poor sleep can lead to dehydration and hormone imbalances, negatively impacting skin health. Jenny McAteer highlights the importance of optimal sleep patterns and bedtime routines for maintaining healthy skin. She suggests aiming for sleep before 11 PM and reducing screen time to improve sleep quality. Establishing a consistent nighttime routine can help your skin regenerate and stay vibrant, ensuring you wake up looking refreshed and radiant.

Jenny McAteer prefers zinc-based sunscreens over chemical ones for healthier skin protection. She recommends using SPF 40 and natural sun protection methods. She also emphasizes the importance of early morning sunlight, which boosts vitamin D production and helps our bodies produce melatonin for better sleep. By combining effective sunscreen use with natural sunlight exposure, you can protect your skin while supporting overall health.
The parasympathetic nervous system plays a crucial role in skin health. Activating it promotes calmness and rejuvenation, benefiting the skin. Jenny shares her techniques to stimulate this system, such as face massages and acupressure. Her morning routine includes face yoga and using a rebounder to reduce puffiness and stimulate the lymphatic system. These practices help maintain a balanced nervous system, leading to healthier, more vibrant skin.

]]>Lea shares insights on authentic beauty, personal style, and how embracing your true self can boost confidence and positivity. In this blog post, she's come back to share even more incredible advice that we didn't get to cover in the podcast!
Read on to get Lea's latest expert tips on self-expression and living confidently through authentic beauty!
Lea: I would say the first action would be to unfollow those “perfect” women or women that make you feel less than with their impossible beauty standards. Then follow those you identify with. Join positive groups online if support is needed. Really dial in on what makes YOU feel beautiful and seek that out on Pinterest to create a board with your own inspiration. Tell yourself you are amazing just the way you are every day!

Lea: I helped a woman who was about to turn 60 years old. She was very upset. Her boyfriend was a few years younger than her and she was about to go on a birthday cruise with him. She wanted to feel lovely and confident. But her age and her current style were bringing her down. We discussed style goals and self love ideas. We created a style board. I even helped her learn how to shop for her shape! There was no need for her to lose weight before her trip, or change her face! She was able to be who she is but elevate her style.
Working on finding out what she loved about herself, allowed her to believe she can find a style for her. There were tears shed both from fear and happiness as she realized she had self love within the whole time. With this, she was able to confidently find her style, put on makeup for her liking (after my makeup lesson), style her hair, and have the perfect outfits for her cruise. She shined so brightly!
Lea: As difficult as it may be in the moment, brush your hair, put on tinted moisturizer and lip balm. Put on an outfit that makes you feel comfortable and confident! That alone will make all the difference!
Lea: It’s a beautiful shift. Feeling seen is priceless.
Lea: I provide worksheets that help these women focus on the beauty they posses within. I also provide mantras and meditations to quiet their negative Nelly!
Lea: Start small! Add a dazzling pair of earrings. Find a shade of lipstick that pops! And always look in the mirror and see yourself as the amazing gorgeous one of a kind person you are. It’s mind over matter in the grand scheme!
Have you ever felt like you're just going through the motions with your beauty routine instead of embracing your true self? Lea Roman helps women find their signature style with "outer beauty expression." She believes it's important to care about how we look, as long as it aligns with who we are inside. Lea says, "When the inner and outer line up and it's authentic to who you are, that's a game-changer."
Authentic beauty is personal. It's about presenting your true self to the world. When your outer look matches your inner essence, you spread positivity and become more relatable.
Lea reminds us that wanting to look and feel beautiful isn't vain—it's about self-acceptance.
"When the inner and outer line up and it's authentic to who you are, that's a game-changer." -Lea Roman
Social media and celebrity culture shape our beauty standards. Lea Roman knows this well, raising her daughter amidst online influencers. "I had to teach my daughter not to believe that stuff and to be herself," Lea says.
She finds inspiration in celebrities like Pamela Anderson, who boldly appear without makeup. "It takes another level of boldness for Pamela Anderson to do this at a certain age," Lea shares. Alicia Keys also embraced her natural look, rejecting traditional beauty norms.

Lea Roman shared her personal journey with beauty standards, revealing she had implants for five years but felt they didn't align with her true self. Even now, she reflects on why she got them. A documentary was even made about her decision to remove them, bringing attention to the liberating experience of realigning outer appearance with inner identity.
One of Lea's favorite client stories involves a woman preparing for her 60th birthday cruise. Lea did her hair and makeup, and when the woman saw herself in the mirror, she radiated confidence and beauty. She felt powerful and beautiful, not for anyone else's validation, but purely for herself. That's the essence of authentic beauty.
Lea welcomes the beauty industry's shift from anti-aging to pro-aging narratives as a healthy, empowering approach. She advises her clients to view aging as a natural, beautiful process to embrace rather than fight against. Lea advises not to fixate on wrinkles or gray hair. Instead, she encourages self-acceptance by looking in the mirror and appreciating their whole self.
According to Lea, when women can say "I look great for my age" with confidence, that's when the real magic happens. They stop nitpicking flaws and start radiating an incredible self-assurance that glows from within. For Lea, this self-acceptance is the epitome of true beauty.
Lea encourages listeners to express their true selves through personal style using tools like Pinterest and vision boards. She stresses that the desire to look and feel beautiful is natural when it comes from self-love. Visit her website, www.mindfulsoulandbeauty.com, for more beauty resources and guidance.

Dan: That little nagging voice that pops up telling you that you’re not good enough or smart enough or whatever enough? Yeah, that’s imposter syndrome. Looking around the room wondering if people will figure out you’re a fraud? Yup, imposter syndrome again. Selling yourself short or giving credit away for your hard work? Imposter syndrome symptoms again.
Dan: When you feel good about yourself, like the feeling after a workout or walk, that really helps you carry yourself in a better light. It also helps us walk a little taller and carry ourselves better—all of which help tackle the negative feelings of imposter syndrome.
Dan: Self-care has become used to describe nearly anything and everything. For me, answering the question “What is going to make me feel good, not just in this moment but later as well?” helps me in general.
Because I’ve 100% been the person who rationalized eating an entire sleeve of Thin Mints from the freezer with the excuse of “self-care”...but that feeling in the moment was fleeing and then filled with some overindulging regret.
Along the same lines as above, finding what works for you is important. Maybe you like to read, maybe it’s journaling, maybe spending time with family or friends—it’s all based on personal preferences.
Finding what makes sense to you, and is realistic for you, can truly help find practices that can make a difference.

Dan: Honestly, I’m still working through the feelings of imposter syndrome when they come up (they’re such sneaky feelings!). One time when the “oh crap what am I doing” feelings came up shortly before delivering my first TEDx talk on failure in 2023, I leaned into what got me there—it was a keynote I created, so I was familiar with the content. I’m used to speaking in front of others, so the worry of messing up was unfounded. That pounding in my chest that some might call nerves? I did my best to reframe that in my mind so that I was excited to deliver the content, not nervous.
Leaning into that experience (or really any experience), can give us greater satisfaction once we realize that we are good enough—we were selected/picked/hired because we have value, and we’re the ones who measure our own successes and wins.
It’s truly helped reframe so many approaches to work and life. And I hope that helps you too!

Marco: Going backstage at a very famous singer’s performance when she asked my opinion on what songs she should or should not keep in her show!
Marco: I base it on the needs of the clients—what the hair needs. I did my leave-in conditioner to reflect the need of protecting the hair while blow drying—check out marcopelusi.com.

Marco: BIG BIG role. The moment we do our hair, the better we feel. We can get a massage and feel great, but if the hair looks bad, we still feel bad. The moment we style our hair, no matter how our body feels, we look and feel better.
Marco: Perhaps AI will allow clients the opportunity to see how they may look wearing different cuts and colors—I think this will be very interesting as time moves on.

]]>Now, Kacie is sharing even more insights with us in this exclusive bonus content post, sharing profound insights not covered in her original podcast interview. Her willingness to open up further and offer additional perspectives on overcoming trauma and embracing resilience is truly inspiring.
This blog post is a unique opportunity to connect with Kacie’s journey on a new level, as she reveals strategies and personal stories that have shaped her path to healing. Read on to learn these invaluable insights and be inspired by Kacie’s strength and openness.
Follow Kacie on Instagram and TikTok @kaciemargis to continue being inspired by her incredible story.

Kacie: I used to think self-care was bubble baths and drinking tea. Now, I realize that it goes far beyond the surface of little joys. I’m a recovering people-pleaser, so self-care to me is about establishing healthy boundaries with people. It’s knowing when to say no and putting yourself first when the situation calls for it. Self-care is also not being afraid to ask for what you need and forgiving yourself for the times you weren’t your best self.
Kacie: Most recently, I got into gardening. If you met me a year ago, I was one of those people who couldn’t keep a plant alive. But all of that changed this year when I was looking for something to make me feel like I have a purpose. Soon, my garden became like a child to me. I love the ritual of watering my plants, and watching everything bloom over time.
I feel my stress levels drop every time I look outside and see my garden. Just last night, I picked some bell peppers, tomato, and basil to make a spaghetti sauce with. I think having a hobby in which you are using your hands is super beneficial for mental wellbeing.
For anyone considering a new hobby—I say just go for it! Don’t worry about being good or bad at it. Remember that hobbies are for you to enjoy and it doesn’t matter how anyone else views the end result.
Kacie: Yes! I learned the 5-4-3-2-1 technique when I first sought out therapy for my PTSD and depression. This is an excellent grounding exercise to bring you into the present moment. Here's how it works:
1. Find a Comfortable Position. Sit or stand in a comfortable position. You can close your eyes if it helps you concentrate, but it's not necessary.
2. Take a Deep Breath. Begin by taking a slow, deep breath in through your nose, counting to four as you inhale.
3. Acknowledge Five Things You See. Open your eyes if they were closed and take a moment to notice five things you can see in your immediate environment. It could be anything from a piece of furniture to a plant.
4. Acknowledge Four Things You Feel. Pay attention to four things you can feel physically. This might be the texture of your clothing, the sensation of your feet on the ground, or the temperature of the air.
5. Acknowledge Three Things You Hear. Listen for three distinct sounds. It could be the hum of a distant conversation, the rustling of leaves, or the sound of your own breathing.
6. Acknowledge Two Things You Smell. If possible, identify two scents in your surroundings. It might be the scent of a room, food, or nature.
7. Acknowledge One Thing You Taste. If you have something to taste nearby, like a sip of water, a piece of fruit, or even the taste of toothpaste, take a moment to focus on that taste.
8. Take Another Deep Breath. After going through the 5-4-3-2-1 process, take another slow, deep breath out through your mouth, counting to four as you exhale.

Kacie: To those facing the darkness of trauma, remember that healing is a journey, and it's okay to feel lost along the way. You have the resilience to overcome, and your sense of purpose can be reignited. Remember that your voice and your story are your power. You should not feel shame because of what you have endured.
Oftentimes after a traumatic event, we lose the sense of who we are. Try to remember all of the things that used to bring you joy—can you incorporate some of those things into your new normal? It’s okay to be mad. Harness your anger and use it as fuel to push you to pursue all of the dreams you have. Your life has immense value, and there is hope to be found even in the darkest moments. Seek small joys, take one step at a time, and focus on self-compassion.
]]>In Episode 4 of The Blissy Experience podcast, motivational speaker and survivor Kacie Margis shares her unrelenting spirit. While attending college and working multiple jobs, Kacie battled chronic health conditions. Not only that, she endured the trauma of surviving a mass shooting, a horrific car accident, and an assault.
As a motivational speaker, Kacie shares her journey of healing and growth. She also connects with followers on Instagram and TikTok, offering insights into managing PTSD.
Through it all, Kacie found her voice. Now she inspires others to turn their pain into purpose. Her story proves our capacity to not only overcome trauma but to thrive because of it. Follow Kacie across social media and visit kaciemargis.com to learn more.

Like many college students today, Kacie found herself overwhelmed balancing a heavy course load, part-time jobs, and a social life. But then she faced a further challenge—battling multiple chronic illnesses, including rheumatoid arthritis and POTS. Despite her health setbacks, Kacie powered through, still working three jobs while undergoing medical treatment.
Her perseverance in the face of adversity shows the depths of courage we can tap into when faced with life's hardships. Kacie's story inspires us to keep putting one foot in front of the other, no matter what.
When a mass shooting happens, it's every American's nightmare—the horror of being in a public place when terror inexplicably rains down. Kacie bravely recounts surviving the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting at a music festival. She shares how she and her sister managed to escape and her memories of the traumatic aftermath.
Kacie has also faced other trauma—a terrible car accident and an assault she courageously spoke out about. She explains her motivations for going public and her perspective on our culture's treatment of women who share such experiences.
Kacie inspires with her strength and resilience.

When trauma happens, the pain can feel inescapable. Kacie gives us hope, though. We learn how Kacie stays grounded when triggers from the traumas she’s experienced arise—using meditation, exercise, art and journaling. She stresses anchoring in the present.
Kacie's story reminds us we're not alone in suffering. Her resilience and coping strategies inspire us to keep moving forward. Most of all, Kacie gives us courage to speak out, seek help, and trust in our capacity to heal.
Like many, Kacie has found self-care helps her mental health. She starts mornings journaling to ground herself. Making breakfast visually appealing brings joy. She then decompresses at night writing in a gratitude journal. Kacie shares how silly putty relieves stress and gardening channels emotions positively.

Kacie Margis courageously shares her journey overcoming trauma, including surviving the horrific Las Vegas mass shooting. By opening up, Kacie models how vulnerability and authentic truth telling foster connection and resilience.
Her story highlights the power we each have to transform pain into meaning. Kacie offers inspiration for managing PTSD and anxiety through grounding routines and self-care.

In this bonus chat, Alec shares more about the transformative power of sleep on creativity, well-being, and performance. Get the lowdown on his top sleep hacks and thoughts on society's sleep culture.
Keep reading for Alec's deep dive into the world of sleep and wellness.
Alec: Like many in the digital marketing industry and entrepreneurial lifestyle, I bought into the "hustle culture" mentality of burning the candle at both ends. Pushing myself to "sleep when you're dead" worked only for a short time and was not sustainable. When I prioritize getting enough high-quality sleep, I experience greater mental clarity, focus, and innovative thinking. My mind works faster and I am more agile when I am well-rested.
When your body is under chronic stress plus sleep deprivation, everything becomes more difficult. From waiting at a stoplight to solving a creative challenge, minor irritations feel like major obstacles.
This all changed when I began thinking of my body and mind like a high-performance race car engine - it needs time to cool down and needs high-quality fuel to keep performing optimally.
Alec: Yes! A few major techniques that have really helped:
Alec: I have friends and colleagues who use Oura Ring to track sleep data. However, my wife and I have been using Apollo recently and really found their haptic vibrations and sleep mode to be effective.
I am also a fan of sleep meditation apps, specifically those from Mindvalley. Calming the mind and listening to a meditation guides you into a state of mindfulness to really focus on relaxing the body and easing into sleep naturally.
Q: In your view, how does society’s understanding and relationship with sleep need to change, and how can we educate people about the importance of sleep from a younger age?
Alec: Our society's relationship with sleep is unfortunately dysfunctional in many ways. Especially with the consistent digital screen use that is keeping an entire generation awake at night. Sleep is often seen as a luxury or wasted time, rather than a biological necessity and optimization tool. This mindset needs to change.
We can better educate people, starting at a young age, by:
With greater education and societal support, we can foster healthier sleep habits starting early in life. Sleep should be valued as a pillar of optimal health and productivity. There is still work to be done in shifting cultural mindsets, but growing awareness is an encouraging start.
Alec: Beyond helping people fall asleep, the two larger benefits that really stand out are improved mood and pain relief. We have customers that express waking up in a better mood in the morning and feeling less stressed. Mood and sleep are very tightly correlated, so we love getting feedback about people waking up happier.
The other major benefit is pain relief. Many sleep aids on the market can get you to sleep, however, reducing inflammation is a whole different matter. Full Spectrum CBD's ability to aid inflammatory responses and joint/muscle pain is consistent feedback we receive. On a personal level, Slumber's Deep Zzzs helped me get through a tear in my shoulder that would wake me up at night when I rolled over.
A big thanks to Alec for sharing his expertise and personal experiences on the significance of sleep and its impact on our daily lives. As Alec emphasizes, it's all about discovering the right sleep routine that aligns with your individual needs. We're confident his insights will spark new ideas and methods for enhancing your sleep quality.

]]>Join us as we unravel Alec's unique journey and gain insights into optimizing sleep habits, achieving wellness, and waking up refreshed.
Diving deep into the sanctity of sleep, Alec gives his opinion on how sleep acts as the cornerstone of health. Dissecting the sleep cycle, he points out his understanding of the difference between deep sleep and REM, stressing deep sleep’s power to restore.
In today's hustle culture, Alec provides a fresh perspective on prioritizing sleep over other activities, including workouts, backed by insights from his Whoop watch.
Alec's nighttime routine is a testament to his commitment to optimizing sleep quality. From “mouth-taping” to using an eye mask and maintaining an ideal room temperature, Alec’s routine reflects the lengths one can go to ensure a deep, uninterrupted sleep.
Alec illustrates the natural, holistic approach Slumber takes to help its users achieve restful sleep. Slumber offers hemp-derived sleep aid products, including gummies, oils, topicals, and more.
These products contain various cannabinoids, like CBD, THC, and the lesser-known CBN. Alec expalines that CBN is often called the "sleep sister" of CBD. He's also comparing the effects of these compounds with melatonin. Quite fascinating!

Ever heard that the average person eats 7 spiders per year in their sleep? Or thought alcohol could help you sleep? Alec clears misconceptions surrounding sleep, debunking the age-old myth about alcohol inducing sleep. He also sheds light on the benefits of magnesium, especially when alcohol is consumed. And for those fearing the creepy myth of swallowing spiders during sleep, Alec brings clarity.
Beyond just sleeping better, Alec offers insights for anyone wanting to feel more energetic during the day. From device-free times, embracing blackout curtains, to being mindful of daily habits – Alec's holistic view extends beyond just nighttime.
Alec's concluding message: prioritizing sleep is essential. With sleep as the foundation, other healthy habits become more effective, and tasks no longer feel like a burden.
Episode 3 of The Blissy Experience Podcast is a treasure trove of insights from Alec Tremaine on sleep and holistic wellness. Our conversation highlights the crucial role of sleep in daily life as we advocate for prioritizing rest to support overall well-being.

Read on for her wisdom on embracing wellness in a way that uplifts your whole being.

Jessica: I have noticed I’m less prone to breaking out when I sleep on a silk pillowcase and I never wake up with sleep lines on my face!
Jessica: Dryness is usually the main change when you move to a different climate. I remember when I first moved from Boston to Los Angeles my hair and skin took almost a year to adjust. On the plus side my hair was less frizzy due to the limited humidity but my skin was so dry.
I love using rosemary or coconut oil in my hair as an overnight hydrating treatment and drinking a lot of water to help your skin adjust. Hydration really comes from the inside out!
Jessica: I would say diet is essential to looking and feeling your best. It is what is going to give you the energy to exercise, and repair and rebuild your muscles after. When it comes to beauty, eating non processed foods really can do wonders for your skin.
I was vegan for 10 years and then after being diagnosed with celiac started eating fish and eggs again. However, I still stick to a diet of plant-based, whole foods. I try not to eat anything processed or fried because that's how I feel my best.
The moral of my story is find what works for you. But no matter your diet, eating whole foods that are minimally processed is always the key to a better overall-well being.

Jessica: Designing your bedroom specifically for sleep really will help you get a better night's sleep. When you are in a zen space, your mind knows it is time to relax. Don’t do work on your laptop from your bed, have a separate space for that. I like to keep my bedroom in neutral tones and have candles with relaxing scents.
Jessica: Dance and yoga is a time for me to get out of my head and into my body. I feel completely free from my thoughts and connected to my movement and breath. It is a chance for me to just be present with myself. I love all forms of dancing! Growing up I was mostly training in ballet and now I love trying a new dance class or just dancing with friends on a night out!
Jessica: Vinyasa, a style of yoga that is about connecting the breath to the movement, is what I practice now. To me it's like a dance, flowing movements guided by breath. I think this is a great way to tap into that freedom of childlike movement. It's a way to be playful, creative, and expressive with our bodies.
Something that, as kids, we are not afraid of and then we hit an age where that becomes harder. In the end, it’s about getting over any insecurities in your mind and letting your body be free to move.

Jessica: I like to do a gratitude meditation and box breathing before I sleep. I think of 3 things that happened that day I am grateful for and 3 things I am looking forward to. Then I start to breathe slowly: 4 counts to inhale through the nose, hold for 2 counts at the top, exhale slowly through the nose for 4 counts, and hold 2 counts on empty. Repeat until your body feels at ease.
Jessica: There is so much advice and so many beneficial practices out there. Wellness should be something you enjoy and look forward to incorporating in your life, or it won’t stick. For me my essentials are plant-based eating, yoga, meditation, and sleep. And that might be different for someone else!
Try a variety of practices and take note of what makes you feel the happiest and your best. Then do more of THAT.
Jessica's holistic wisdom provides so many valuable insights for living with greater balance, joy, and wellness—we thank you, Jessica! As she notes, we each need to find what works best for our own mind-body connection. We hope you're inspired to embrace some new practices and rituals after reading Jessica's advice.
